One of the lesser known, free outdoor exhibitions available to view in London, the Illuminated River Foundation is a 10 year project underway right now, despite Covid!
The brainchild of artist Leo Villareal, brought to life with the help of architects Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands, when finished it will be the longest public artwork in the world at 3.2 miles in length.
Obviously this is an exhibition best seen at night, but the beauty of it is that you can go whenever and start your tour wherever suits you.
You'll find that this carefully orchestrated synchronization of LED lights installed on the various bridges spanning the Thames creates a subtle yet mesmerizing link between them all, reflecting it's rainbow colours in the glossy night-time water.
Leo's work can be seen from so many different perspectives that it is hard to know where to start, but here is a list of the bridges to be included in the masterpiece for you to enjoy exploring at your leisure:
- London Bridge
- Cannon St Railway Bridge
- Southwark Bridge
- Millenium Bridge
- Blackfriars Bridge
- Waterloo Bridge
- Golden Jubilee Footbridge
- Westminster Bridge
- Lambeth Bridge
- Albert Bridge
- Chelsea Bridge
- Grosvenor Bridge
- Vauxhall Bridge
- Tower Bridge
